Herbal Cream & Salve
Saturday’s project was using up half a bottle of infused herbal oil. I heated the oil, added a few ounces of cocoa butter and shea butter and 2 ounces of beeswax. This added up to approximately 30 ounces of oil, which I then cooled and mixed with 20 ounces of liquid (purified water and aloe juice) and essential oils of lavender, chamomile and immortelle. The result: 50 ounces of wonderfully nourishing and healthy skin and body cream.
I saved a some herbal oil and made herbal salves. Just enough to fill a few small containers. The recipe is very simple: I heated 2 oz. of oil, added 1 oz. cocoa butter and 1 oz. beeswax. When the beeswax was melted, I poured the mixture in containers, then added essential oils. In my case Roman chamomile and lavender.
Both the cream and the salve are awesome. The cream is very moisturizing and smells great. I am using the salve as a lip balm, because regular store bought balms won’t help my chapped lips. Now this stuff is amazing. My lips were fine after one day. Yay for homemade products!!
The picture shows the salves on the left and the creams on the right. As you can see (or so I hope), the salve is green and the cream, even though made with the same green herbal oil, turned white after being blended with the liquid components. It’s a very interesting process.
Soap
Today I am writing about my first experience with making soap. Yes, I made all the soaps in the picture and many more last week. No, not exactly from scratch. That will be my next project. I bought about 10 lbs of melt and pour soap to experiment and get a feel for it. There is a whole variety of soaps that can be crafted to suit a specific purpose. I tried plain glycerin soap, shea butter soap, goats milk soap, olive oil soap and avocado / cucumber soap. I then went ahead and added my ingredients like oats, herbs, essential oils, infused herbal oils and loofah to create different blends. It was actually a lot of fun and now I have to test them and do some hands on marketing research to figure out, which ones people would prefer to buy. Next step: giving away free soap to my friends and family. Personally, I believe that the oatmeal shea butter soap will be a big hit. We shall see….

creatif Store
I am working on my online store, the new website and of course, the products I am going to sell. At the moment I am busy making soap samples and I need to get more components for my jewelry. Right now is pretty much the experimentation/testing phase for my store products. There is still a lot of work to be done including the HFV website and my eBooks. I think the websites and store will be up some time in April or May. Back to work…..
